LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Jonathan Lindsey recently introduced six bills to advance and uphold freedoms granted to citizens in the U.S. Constitution.
“These bills are based on common sense,” said Lindsey, R-Coldwater. “The Constitution should never be taken for granted, and we must strive to reverse the damage that Democrats have inflicted on our protected freedoms.”
- Senate Bill 117 aims to eliminate the Michigan state income tax. For seven years, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has abused state tax dollars; Michiganders deserve to keep their money.
- Senate Bill 118 would establish a fully refundable state tax credit program designed to ensure that parents who do not utilize public education are treated fairly.
- Senate Bill 119 would create pro-life education guidelines regarding fetal development. These bills will inform students about the stages of pregnancy and the development of babies.
- Senate Bill 120 would require voters to verify their identity to vote.
- Senate Bill 121 seeks to protect Second Amendment rights in Michigan. This bill would enshrine the Second Amendment by prohibiting stamps and taxes, protecting Michiganders from unconstitutional confiscation, and preventing firearms from being registered and tracked.
- Senate Bill 122 would rein in the authority of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) regarding state health emergency regulations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a severe overreach by both the governor and MDHHS. This legislation would reduce the MDHHS’s ability to issue orders on public health, and instead limit their focus to providing recommendations.
“I am proud to introduce legislation that protects liberty in Michigan,” Lindsey said. “My bills will safeguard our tax dollars and defend the right to fair elections. My ‘Baby Olivia’ bill raises awareness about the sanctity of unborn life, while my Second Amendment legislation defends the right to bear arms. Additionally, I am fighting against government overreach through MDHHS and supporting parents who choose alternatives to public schooling. I look forward to working with stakeholders in the Michigan House and Senate to advance these crucial bills and defend liberty.”
