SB 724 – Sanctuary Cities Ban

SB 724 – Sanctuary Cities Ban

The president’s failed border policies have allowed millions of unvetted individuals into the United States and created a significant breach in our national security by allowing dangerous criminals and known terrorists to cross our borders.

In the absence of meaningful action from the federal government, I joined my Republican colleagues in the Senate to prevent this issue from taking hold of our state like it has others. The legislative package lays out increased penalties for production and distribution of fentanyl and outlines additional efforts to secure our borders, enforce immigration laws, and keep our communities safe.

I sponsored Senate Bill 724 as part of this comprehensive package, which would prohibit sanctuary cities in Michigan. Local governments across the country, including some in Michigan, have given themselves the entitlement of ignoring federal immigration laws and preventing law enforcement and immigration officials from doing their jobs. These policies are overwhelming communities across the country and putting the safety of United States citizens at risk. We need to send a strong message that we will not be a safe haven for those who break the law.

I have created this communications portal so that you can take the time to learn about this legislation and provide direct feedback on the issue. I hope you will take a moment to fill out the form below and help bring the voice of the people to Lansing!
