Sen. Lindsey: I Vote No on Fee Increases for Hunting and Fishing Licenses
The Michigan Senate voted on wide-ranging fee increases for hunting and fishing licenses. I voted no for a few reasons.
-State government does not need more money (especially the DNR, who wastes far too much of the money they already get to harass Michigan residents and violate their rights).
-Hunters and Fishers already pay enough.
-These activities are declining and hiking fees will further disincentivize hunting and fishing (see video below on this point).
-This was intentionally done as a surprise vote to ram the legislation through the Senate without appropriate scrutiny.
I do give major credit to State Senator Michele Hoitenga for getting the sponsors to include language in the legislation to address the topic of baiting on behalf of hunters, but this I still could not support the overall package. (October 21, 2025)
